Heads up, Malaysian Idol Hopefuls and Fans!

KUALA LUMPUR: Good news for singing enthusiasts. Malaysian Idol will soon be back and singer wannabes can audition for the new season at four venues next month.

The auditions will be held at the Sarawak Tourism Centre (STC) in Kuching on April 9-10; Eden Hotel in Johor Baru (April 16-17); Penang International Sports Arena in Penang (April 23-24) and Kuala Lumpur (May 6-8). The time for the nationwide auditions and the Kuala Lumpur venue will be announced at a later date.

The competition is open to those between 18 and 28 years old. To participate, register directly at the auditions.

The first episode of the new season called Malaysian Idol 2 is scheduled to be aired on 8TV on May 27 and the grand finale at the end of September.

To add to the hype, a road tour featuring finalists from the first season of Malaysian Idol will be held in the cities hosting the auditions.

It will take place at STC in Kuching on April 9; Plaza Angsana in Johor Baru (April 16); Gurney Plaza in Penang (April 23) and Kuala Lumpur (May 7). The venue for the road tour in Kuala Lumpur has not
been confirmed.

8TV chief executive officer Ahmad Izham Omar is confident that the second season of the reality TV show will improve and give aspiring singers the opportunity to show off their talents.

"We expect more participants this year," he said during the launch here yesterday.

Contestants should bring along a 2x3R photo, a photocopy of their IC and a signed legal release form that can be obtained from www.8tv.com.my or www.bluehyppo.com.

Contestants under 18 years old must bring along a parental consent form that is available on both websites. All the forms are also available at the audition venues.

The panel of judges for the auditions and the series are Paul Moss, Roslan Aziz and Fauziah Latiff.

At the launch, Malaysian Idol Jaclyn Victor received a gold plaque from Sony BMG for as her album Gemilang had sold more than 15,000 copies.

Malaysian Idol finalists Dina, Sufiah and Saiful signed recording deals with Free Nature Sdn Bhd, Interglobal Music and Sony BMG respectively.

Vick Teo was offered to star in a local Cantonese horror movie to be produced by Dream Image Interactive Studio.

Five Malaysian Idol finalists – Victor, Dina, Vick, Zamil and Rydee – also signed up as TM Net's talents at the function.
